If you're new to the eHookah world, there is a lot of terminology to get familiar with. Two of the most frequent terms that you must know are Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG). These two things act as the base of all eJuice or eLiquid, each brand then adds their own flavors and nicotine levels. Many e-liquids are a mix of PG and VG, while others are strictly one way or the other. What is the difference between PG and VG?
Propylene Glycol (PG)
PG has inspired a lot of conversation and false claims recently. Many anti-vaping lobbyists claim that PG is harmful because it is found in antifreeze. The fact is that propylene glycol is found in a number of substances, including many food products, consmetics, pharmeceuticals, etc. It is an FDA approved substance, and has been deemed safe for consumption.
This is the most commonly used eLiquid base because it is a little less viscous (thinner), which means that it is less likely to gum up your vaporizer. If you have an atomizer with a wick, you will want to use a PG, or a mix that is primarily PG to ensure easy absorbtion to avoid clogging. It also tends to produce a more noticeable 'throat hit'.
PG can cause a mild allergic response that manifests in a throat tickle, extreme throat dryness, nausea, or skin reaction. These reactions are rare, but have been noted.
We do not carry any 100% PG liquids. Any eliquids in our shop with PG are a mix with VG.
Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
VG is a water soluable liquid that, like PG, is also used in many other consumable products. Many people consider this to be a more 'natural' alternative, and is known to be sweeter and produce larger clouds than PG. If you have any allergy concerns, or if you're looking for a more organic route, then VG might be best for you.
We do carry one brand of 100% VG based eJuice - Austin's eLiquid. This liquid can be used in any wickless clearomizer and comes in a variety of flavors and nicotine levels ranging from 0mg-32mg.
Most of our eLiquids are a mix of these two bases. Each brand will generally list what percentage of each ingredent is present. These mixes are really the best of both worlds - big clouds, useable in numerous devices, great flavor, and a noticeable throat hit.
